Meet Jøkul!
Jøkul is Kvitfjell's mascot, and the children's best friend in Kvitfjell. He lives in a snow cave and loves to be out skiing and collecting snow diamonds. You can meet him outside all winter and join his fun activities!
the story of Jøkul
A long, long time ago, when the world was covered in ice and snow, mysterious snow monsters lived in the Norwegian mountains. These snow monsters, or Yetier as they were called, were large furry figures that could look scary, but were really just kind.
But one day, the ice began to melt and the whole world changed. The mountains shook and large avalanches washed over the landscape and bathed the world in a fog of snow and ice. And when the mountains stopped shaking and the snow finally settled, everything was completely silent and all the Yetis had left. That is, all but one, the small Yeti Jøkul. He didn't want to leave the white mountain.
That is why Jøkul lives to this day in Kvitfjell and is our very best mountain friend.
Jøkul lives in a beautiful snow cave with large sparkling icicles that hang from the vaulted ceiling and reflect the sunlight outside. Although he loves his snow cave, he also loves to be out skiing. It is the case with Kvitfjell, that you can sometimes find large colorful diamonds hidden under the snow. No one knows exactly where they come from, or why they are there, but Jøkul has over time become very interested in finding these diamonds. And every time he finds one, he eagerly returns to his cave and, with a small ice pick, smashes the diamonds and turns them into sparkling diamond dust.
This diamond dust is the most valuable thing Jøkul has, and every time the moon is high in the sky, he climbs up to the top peak of Kvitfjell and spreads the diamond dust into the wind. The diamond dust descends over Kvitfjell and makes the snow sparkle in the light from the moon, so that the mountain itself becomes luminous in the dark. In this way, Jøkul ensures that there is always sparkling snow in Kvitfjell.
But Jøkul is, as far as we know, the last Yeti in Kvitfjell. And it can get a little lonely at times for a little yeti boy, but luckily for Jøkul, the human children have come to Kvitfjell! He loves to ski with the kids on sparkling diamond snow and besides, he always warms his heart if you give him a hug.
Jøkul is a small Yeti with his heart in his hand who always wants to make a friend or two. Because who knows, maybe his new friends can help him find the snow diamonds so that the snow in Kvitfjell can continue to sparkle...?
You can meet our mascot, Jøkul, in Kvitfjell all winter. He especially likes our family areas, KIDS Skitorget and KIDS Gudbrandsgard.
