This is how we ensure good snow conditions

Modern technology provides better utilisation of the snow
There is a lot of work behind good ski trails. In Hafjell, Kvitfjell and Oppdal , we use modern treadmills with snow depth measurement to map how much snow is on the trails.

This gives us a good overview of where more snow is needed, and where we can distribute the snow that already exists. In this way, we can use resources more efficiently and facilitate even, stable conditions throughout the winter.

The technology has yielded good results. Already in the second year after the introduction of snow depth measurement, snow production was reduced by 34 percent, because we could utilise and distribute the snow better.

Snow safety in Oppdal

Big mountains and good opportunities for skiing through the winter

Oppdal offers skiing in four mountain areas, with great variation in terrain and altitude.

At the start of the season, around 10 kilometers of groomed alpine trails normally open in Vangslia, before Stølen and Hovden follow as conditions allow.

Large parts of the facility are located high in the mountains, where natural snow plays an important role. The combination of high location, snow production and ongoing preparation provides good conditions for a long ski season.

Smarter snow production

Snow production is an important part of the work to ensure predictable winter seasons. Artificial snow is made from water and air, without chemical additives, and is more compact than natural snow. Therefore, it also tolerates mild weather and wear well.

We continuously invest in technology and solutions that make snow production more efficient. By combining modern snow cannons, snow depth measurement and good planning, we can reduce unnecessary use of both water and energy.

The goal is simple: to take the best possible care of the snow we have, and give our guests good skiing experiences throughout the season.
