About Hafjell

Hafjell Alpine Resort is the snow-sure family favorite that facilitates good skiing experiences, for all levels - from beginner to expert. You don't have to choose between family vacation and raw skiing - here you will find both.

Just a quarter of an hour's drive north of Lillehammer is Norway's third largest ski resort, Hafjell. The alpine center was built in the summer/autumn of 1988 to emphasize the seriousness of Lillehammer's application to arrange the 17. Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer. On 15 September 1988, Lillehammer was awarded the 1994 Winter Olympics.

However, Hafjell's alpine history stretches back to the 1930s and as early as 1939, an international student championship in downhill was arranged. The route had a starting point in today's top area and the finish area down at today's bottom station. In 1958, the Norwegian Championships in downhill were held on the same route. In connection with the Olympics in 1994, work of both a permanent and temporary nature was carried out in connection with buildings, starting houses, finish houses, cabling for TV transmission, timing, etc. Today, Hafjell is Norway's 3rd largest ski resort and is constantly developing.

Snow-sure in Hafjell

Located in Gudbrandsdalen, the snow often falls early and regularly in Hafjell, which is important to give the ski guest the best experience throughout the season. To ensure snow conditions, Hafjell has over 180 snow cannons that pour out 6 truck loads per minute. The combination of natural snow and artificial snow gives a good sole and the trails are exactly as we want them. Hafjell's snow facility covers as much as 90% of the entire facility. In connection with the new chairlift, Vidsynexpressen, there will be additional snow facilities in the south of the mountain that ensure even more slopes from the start of the season.

Summer in Hafjell

Hafjell Bike Park is the leader in Norway in lift-based cycling, with 19 trails from green to black difficulty spread over a total of 25 km. In 2022, Hafjell Bike Park was ranked as one of the world's 15th best destinations for cycling! The summer offer has gradually developed over the past 20 years, and the first enthusiasts started building trails in the early 2000s. Now we have a full-fledged bicycle offer, with bike rental, guiding, several restaurants open in the summer as well as the gondola and chairlift 2 as in the summer. Fast and accessible

Hafjell is just over two hours' drive from Oslo via the E6 - a comfortable and safe highway where traffic flows well. From Oslo there is a four-lane motorway all the way to Moelv. Hardly any other ski resort in Norway has better accessibility or easier travel than Hafjell. You can also take public transport by train via Oslo Airport. The train stops in Lillehammer with a corresponding bus to Hafjell Alpinsenter. Read more about the travel route to Hafjell here

KIDS Hafjell – because we take children seriously!

Hafjell has a total of three family areas where skiing and various activities for the children are in focus.   It is in these areas that children can meet Hafjell's mascot, Isa and take part in fun activities and events throughout the season. In all our family areas, it is allowed to use a toboggan.

1.     Isa's Embrace: Gondoltoppen/Favn is a family area located right next to the gondola disembarkation. A great gathering point and an eldorado for the whole family in the mountains. In addition, there is a warming room with the opportunity to buy hot drinks and grill your own food. The gondola top embraces the entire area and contains the following:

  • Family area Favn: A conveyor belt with a wide and very gentle hill with different fun elements to suit the little ones. This is without a doubt our slackest course.
  • Family Area Frontyard: Perfect for children and beginners. The hill here has a slightly steeper slope than Favn and serves as a good next level after Favn. Here there is a belt lift and a bowl lift. The bowl lift takes you to the next level with a steeper children's slope. There is also a Minicross that will be the miniature version of our large Helly Hansen Skicross, but intended for children. In this family area, there are also elements that offer skiing and mastery. Next door you will find the heated room, Paviljongen, with toilet, electric grills and soda vending machine and coffee machine.
  • Audi Ski Run: We'll time it as you whizz past the gates! Compete with friends and family for the best time. Here there is an elevator that runs parallel to the hill so you can ride over and over again!
  • Isa's forest trails: Take the Moseter lift all the way to the top and you can ride a long forest trail made especially for children. Wide and nice, but at the same time warm between the trees with fun elements. We also have Isa's cabin trail that you can easily get into if you take Hafjell 360 up and follow trail no. 1, Nyseterløypa. This trail is clearly one of our most popular - for everyone! Inside the trail is Isa's cabin and maybe you hear something in this forest you haven't heard before?
  • Blåparken Backyard: A park that is just as suitable for a beginner as an advanced park rider. It's fun for everyone here. Jump lines in blue and red levels, as well as rails and boxes. The park is designed and designed for park riders (Mainpark is for those who want even greater challenges). The park is also open for night skiing, every Tues-Thurs until 20:00. PS: Night skiing in Hafjell does not take place until mid-January until March.

2.     Gaiastova: This is our family area closest to Hafjelltoppen! Right next to Gaiastova and parking with free bowl lift – all season! The bowl lift is located in the middle of a wide hill with skiing between slalom gates. Here there are bullets on one side and clean ground on the other side. There are two barbecue stalls with electric grills that are free of charge. Toilets, restaurant and other facilities can be found inside Gaiastova.

3.     Knerten: Central location at the bottom of Hafjell. Knerten consists of Knerten and Familebakken with two associated bowl lifts. Knerten is a smaller hill than the Family Lift, but both are suitable for children and beginners. Fun elements that offer skiing and mastery as well as the gathering point for Hafjell Ski School. The ski school also has its own small area with a belt lift for the ski school's youngest students. Here too, there is a barbecue hut with electric grills available.

The gondola in the mountains

The gondola takes you quickly and comfortably up to Hafjell's midpoint and Favn/Gondoltoppen. Here the children can romp both with and without skis on their feet. The gondola makes it possible to bring both a stroller, wheelchair and dog. Here you will find modern apartments at Favn, with their own ski rental. There are also restaurants, a café, toilet facilities, family areas, a warming room and not least Hafjell 360 - the lift that takes you all the way to the top!

Should hunger strike, Skavlen is right next to the Gondola. Restaurant Favn and Cafe Favn are located right next to the children's area and Sætra serves as a kiosk with a simpler offer.   Read more about our offer here.

Park for all levels

In Hafjell, there are park facilities with plenty of space, and challenges at all levels. Try a jump for the first time in the Frontyard for Kids or play in the blue park "Backyard" with medium-sized jumps, boxes and rails. Ride our long, cool Helly Hansen Ski Cross and compete with friends and family. For the toughest, the terrain park "Mainpark" is the perfect playground and has been named Norway's best park and one of the world's ten best parks by international media. Today, the skiing and snowboarding stars of the future train here. Both national and international events take place in Hafjellparken.

Blåparken Backyard is also open for night skiing.

Versatile Hafjell

The combination of good skiing, exciting challenges, good and varied food and the proximity to Lillehammer, is probably what has made Hafjell one of Scandinavia's most popular places to spend your ski holiday. Still, the slopes are rarely cramped. In the 23/24 season, the level will be raised further in Hafjell with a new full-comfort 6-seater express lift, Vidsynexpressen, which will make even more of Hafjell available to even more people. This lift replaces the old Hafjellheis 3, and opens up skiing's tenderloin in Hafjell - the south side. From the top of Hafjell you can stand 7 km in one stretch from top to bottom. It is actually the country's longest run!

Hafjell has a large selection of slopes, both in skill level and design. Wide carving slopes, exciting trails through the forest and scenic trails with views up the entire Gudbrandsdalen valley and the mountain kingdom.

Come and experience the winter adventure in Hafjell with us!
